The biggest problem though comes from the crowbarred social issues thrown in. With no references to the pandemic this week, instead we get a whole under-developed subplot for JT to deal with surrounding a racist cop. Instead of showing him as a confident, intelligent, brilliant detective that we know he is, JT is instead reduced to a scared and indifferent shadow of the man he was in the first season.

The hour had nearly everything you'd want it to have, and for the most part, it works for a finale episode of the series. It put almost all of the team to use, even giving us some Ainsley working alongside JT and Dani.

We never got a shot at what Don looked like, so another thing that could've carried into a new season was whether or not Don was still alive. Martin said he was in another of his amusing lines, but who's to say he was telling the truth

A new season would have a lot to explore. It's doubtful that Martin would die, but the trauma of nearly killing him again would do a number on Malcolm. After all, this time, he would've meant it in his defense.

Ainsley is a master manipulator, and the only thing missing was some shots of Dani and JT as they watched her work. The three of them killed it as a team, and it's too bad Ainsley didn't get more of these moments throughout the season.

Television.[10] On March 12, 2019, it was announced that Lee Toland Krieger would be directing the series.[11] On May 9, 2019, it was announced that the production had been given a series order.[12] The following day, it was announced that the series would premiere in the Fall of 2019.[13] The series debuted on September 23, 2019.[14] On October 7, 2019, the series was picked up for a full season of 22 episodes.[15] In March 2020, Warner Bros. Television suspended production on the series upon the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.[16] As a result, episode 20 served as the first season finale.[17]

In February 2019, it was announced that Lou Diamond Phillips, Aurora Perrineau and Frank Harts had been cast in the pilot's lead roles.[2] Alongside the pilot's order announcement, in March 2019, it was reported that Michael Sheen, Bellamy Young, Finn Jones, Keiko Agena and Halston Sage had joined the cast.[6][5][21][4][3] Four days later, on March 12, 2019, it was announced that Tom Payne would replace Jones in the starring role of Malcolm Bright, during first table readings.[1] On February 10, 2020, Dermot Mulroney was cast in a recurring role.[7] On December 7, 2020, Christian Borle and Michael Potts joined the cast in recurring capacities for the second season.[8] On January 6, 2021, Catherine Zeta-Jones joined the cast for the second half of the season.[9]

Another point to reality in the episode was in reference to the racial tension and police violence. It seemed inevitable that this is mentioned with the entire team (apart from Malcolm) being people of color working within law enforcement.

At the end of the episode, they hash it out and Malcolm is so broken about the fact she faked her blackout to get back at Malcolm. You would think she would admit it was deranged, but nope she crazy. It was so hard for me to see the tears in his eyes and his voice cracking as he pleaded with Ainsley.

Not everything in this episode was depressing. We found out Anissa has a photo of Grace as her lock screen. Past that, Grace made an actual in-the-flesh appearance, showing up at the hospital to bring Anissa food and to let her know that she cares. It was pretty adorable, and reminded me how much both Anissa and especially Grace have been underutilized this season.
